Principal's Message

Dear Parents, Guardians, Family and Friends,

Welcome to the 2017-18 school year at Delta Vista Middle School.  I cannot say enough how impressed I am with the start of this school year.  Our staff has been working hard to make sure that we have the very best to offer our students as we begin.

I would like to take the time to formally welcome our new staff members, all of the new families that have joined us this year from our feeder elementary schools, as well as the new members of the Oakley Community.  This is going to prove to be a very busy and exciting school year with a lot in store.  I would like to invite each and everyone one of you to become involved as much as possible.  One nice way to keep informed is through participation in our PTSA.  I want to encourage everyone to join our PTSA, attend our meetings and get involved.

As always, school attendance will be emphasized and monitored closely again this year.  We all know that there is no educational equivalent to a student being in class.  I do realize that students from time to time will become ill.   Please keep your student home if they are truly sick. As a general guideline, if your child has a fever of 102*F or above and have either diarrhea or vomiting please keep them home from school until symptoms subside.  If your student is stating that they “do not feel well” but do not show the symptoms of the flu or a cold, please send them to school to try to make it through the day. Should they not feel well enough to continue as the day progresses, we will call home to have them picked up.  Each and every day is important and I would like to see all students be in class as much as possible.  I want to encourage all of you to try and plan as many things as possible around our school schedule to help ensure that your child is in school.

Safety is paramount in our pickup and drop off areas, so please use care and consideration when doing so.  We ask that you do not pick up or drop off any student on the far entries of the lot or in the aisle way of the parking lot.  This poses a safety hazard not only to the students, but other drivers who are in the area. We ask that you pull around the parking lot to drop your child off at the curb next to the school.  It is always best to err on the side of safety and not have your child crossing in the flow of traffic. I encourage everyone to be patient and follow the set traffic patterns that are in place. It is for the safety of our children.

For those of you whose children walk home please remind them to use crosswalks and to always be respectful of others property within our community.  We ask that student who are headed towards Main St. walk along the creek trail under the train trestle.  This is the safest way to get to Main St.  We provide after school crossing supervision at the front of the school as well as at Cypress Ave. at the Main St. intersection.  The crossing guard will only cross students over Cypress Ave. and not Main St. We encourage students who must cross Main St. to do so with extreme caution while always using the cross walk at the appropriate time.  Failure to follow these rules puts students in danger and school consequences will be given.  My number one priority is to ensure that all of our students are safe, and each and every one of us plays a role in seeing that this happens.

The education of children is a shared responsibility between parents, students, school and community.  On behalf of everyone here at Delta Vista Middle School, I want to say that we are honored to do our part and are all looking forward to what will prove to be an excellent middle school experience for your student(s).  If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to stop by or give us a call.  Thank you very much for being a part of the Delta Vista Middle School family.  Here is to the start of another great school year!
